Walking Wednesday

Wednesday, after a breakfast of scrambled eggs, we put on our walking shoes and headed to the Thames River.  For the rest of the day we walked on the north and south banks of the Thames - starting at the famous Tower Bridge (shown in our title picture) and concluding at Big Ben and the Parliament Buildings.  We took in various sights along the river, such as the Tower of London (an old fortress), the H.M.S. Belfast (a battleship from the Second World War), the Tate Museum of Modern Art, and the London Eye (a huge Ferris Wheel type attraction that allows one spectacular views of the city).  By that point our feet were sore and our bodies worn out, so we took the tube (the London subway system) back to where we started (the Tower Hill station).  Then walked the remaining 8 blocks to our flat - and we once again collapsed into various states of dozing or sleeping until we decided supper was in order.

Off once again to the local grocery store, where Joshua showed his skill at the self-checkout stalls (I bet we were twice as fast as anyone else - all that work at Safeway has given him unique skills).  Then a light supper of soup and biscuits, some family discussion about the next day and off to bed.  A full day with many highlights - I will let the other members of the family write about their own specific highlights.

Below is a picture of the Thames River (taken from the London Eye - hence the reflection from the plexiglass), the portion of the River along which this day's adventures took place.
